The rainy season gives a welcome relief after scorching summer days. While a dip in temperature is highly desirable, the onset of monsoon brings with it a number of vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. Vectors are small organisms such as mosquitoes, bugs, and ticks that can carry a disease from person to person.
Ulcerative colitis is defined as an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in the gastrointestinal tract. It affects the colon (the innermost lining of large intestine) and rectum. Ulcerative colitis can be debilitating and in some cases, lead to life-threatening complications. Although there is no known cure for this disease as of yet, treatment can significantly help in reducing the signs and symptoms of the disease and can also bring about long-term remission.
