Tips to Stay Healthy in Summer

Summers have arrived along with its substantial effects. Temperatures have been going remarkably high and extreme hot weather can affect us in the form of heat stroke, sunburn, dehydration and others.

It is tremendously important to be careful during such high temperatures. The primary purpose of this blog is to help people to lead their summers in supreme relaxation and to avoid certain steps.Enjoy the easy tips to have a healthy and protected summer.

Stay fresh and hydrated

Drink lots of water! Water is a key ingredient during the summer. One must have at least two to four cups empty stomach after wakingup in the morning and similar amounts for routinely activities. Summer heat can cause thirst anytime. Therefore, people should carry a water bottle whenever they go out. On average, we need approximately two to three quarts of water per day and more in hotter weather. It is therefore important to keep the body well hydrated. One can also drink fresh juices, coconut water or green tea throughout the day.

Outdoor exposure

If you are staying outdoors for too long, make sure to wear a hat and use sunscreen. You can also carry an umbrella. If you are planning on working out, try to do it early in the morning or after sun down.

Healthy and proper diet

Maintain a proper diet with all essential nutrition requirements and eat seasonal fruits and vegetables regularly. Consuming foods that are light and have cooling effects (fresh fruits, vegetable juices, salads, and lots of water) will cherish the body for daily activities. The addition of some protein is important too. People should try to avoid oily or junk food as they can have an adverse effect on the body.

Taking care of skin in the summer

The skin should be moisturized appropriately in the summer. Various people have various forms of skin type, such as dry, sensitive, and oily skin. Different skin type demands a different skincare routine. For example, for dry skin, one can use a moisturizer. Face and skin should be properly washed in the summer to shield it from the heatstroke and dust particles. This task is something to be done by everyone on a regular basis.

Treat your eyes well

Protection of vision from the harsh sunlight while working is very crucial. Wear protective eye wear. When outdoors, wear sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays along with sun rays.

Say no to over-intoxication

Everyone wants to spend their summers happily with friends and family. People like to go out to parties, hangout, and celebrate the warm weather. But always try to maintain the amount of alcohol levels as intoxication can adversely affect an individual’s health. Moreover, alcohol may also cause dehydration.

Have some nutritional supplements

Proper nutritional supplements can provide some benefits to the body with a higher amount of physical energy. Multivitamins are also a very good option as a nutritional supplement.

NOTE: Take these supplements on the prescription of doctors only or after consulting with your physician.
Cut down to smaller and lighter meals

Generally, meals should be small and light in the summers. Avoid heavy items in meals like fast food, junk food, etc. Heavy food is quite difficult to digest and makes an individual lazy. It may also increase the cholesterol level in the body, which later has multiple health consequences. Focus on a lighter meal like salad, fruits, green vegetables, etc.

Have drinks that actually hydrate

To get hydrated well, have sips of drinks throughout the day in the summers. Plain water, coconut water, water with lemon and cucumber slices, organic and decaf iced tea or herbal tea are some of the drinks one can have any time in the summer. Apart from drinks, nature has provided us numerous options such as watermelon, orange, cucumber, celery, grapefruit, etc. which contain a good amount of fluids. Consuming them can replenish cellular water and maintain body functions. Most of us think hydration means drinking water frequently. But hydration is all about how our body keeps water. When an individual consumes water through fruits and vegetables, they also get antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and fibre.

Protect yourself from wounds and injuries

Due to more physical activities in the summer, the chances of getting injuries gradually increases. While playing or doing some activity, wear the right protective equipment to prevent wounds and bruises. Keep the first aid kit or any other ointments, pain killer spray, etc. ready at the home. This is important because, in the summer season, injuries and wounds are badly affected by the sunstroke, humidity, etc. This is commonly seen in children who are always ready for outdoor games.

Summer travel tips

  • Accessorize right
  • Wear light colors and natural fabrics like cotton and linen. When outside, use proper covering for the mouth, nose, and ears to get protection from the harsh sun rays, which may result in dehydration. Use a hat or an umbrella for shade and wear sunglasses to protect the eyes.

  • Wear sunscreen
  • Apply a good and waterproof sunscreen to all exposed parts of the body and reapply it every four to five hours to ensure that skin remains protected from heat.

  • Adopt an appropriate skincare routine
  • Summer can inflict havoc on the body, especially to the skin, if proper care is not taken. Excessive oil and sweat secretion can cause troublesome irritation, rashes, prickly heat, and aggravation of acne. Wash face or use tissues to wipe sweaty face to avoid acne and rashes. Use natural face packs such as aloe vera gel or sandalwood powder to soothe the skin.
